Sunday Stills: Eyes

Once again it's time for Sunday Stills. This week the topic is eyes. Because one of the things I love about all my animals are the eyes, I've been trying to get good pictures of them all week. Well, that hasn't worked out so well, they never seem to cooperate when I want them to. Luckily eyes have been a passion of mine for a while so I dug through the archives and here is what I found.

Nala's Eye
This is the eye of the recently deceased Nala. She had the most gorgeous eyes. They were amber around the outside with brown closer to the pupil. Beautiful.

DSC00340
The eye of a Moluccan Cockatoo. This particular Moluccan is one of the saddest birds I know and it really shows in his eyes. You can also tell the sex of a cockatoo by the eyes. Male eyes are jet black like this one while female eyes are brownish.

DSC00320
This is a female citron (I think) and you can see her eyes are much lighter then the Moluccans.

Sammy's eye
And then there's my Sammy. As you can see his eye is jet black because he's a boy and his eye is much happier looking then the Moluccans. Don't ever think that birds can't show emotion. You just have to know where to look.

And so ends our bird anatomy lesson for today :) I'm off to Sunday Stills to see what everyone else came up with.

Why is the Moluccan Cockatoo sad? Is it this particular species or just this bird?

Did you separate him from his girlfriend?

Thanks for visiting my site.

Thanks for the info on sexing the birds -- I never knew that! Also, that boy is very sad, I feel bad for him having such a sad life. I knew one of those Cockatoos and he was the most fun loving bird then he passed away and his owner replaced him with a female that ended up being a "princess" it was so funny that she took on that role.
